Remove:

editors: vim and emacs
htop

Change:

lmod -> install from gentoo overlay
add comments about why certain packages are necessary

Check:

pam? still required for https://github.com/easybuilders/easybuild-easyconfigs/blob/develop/easybuild/easyconfigs/r/RStudio-Server/RStudio-Server-2022.07.2%2B576-foss-2022a-Java-11-R-4.2.1.eb#L56
numactl? -> see Add numactl to 2021.12 set to bring lists of installed packages more in sync for aarch64/ppc64le and x86_64 #76
dbus? -> mentioned here, but doesn't list the reason for adding it: Install additional tools in compatibility layer compatibility-layer#47 (comment). We do filter it out in Easybuild, see below.
what do we filter out with Easybuild: "DEPS_TO_FILTER=Autoconf,Automake,Autotools,binutils,bzip2,cURL,DBus,flex,gettext,gperf,help2man,intltool,libreadline,libtool,Lua,M4,makeinfo,ncurses,util-linux,XZ,zlib"

If we also run emerge --depclean --with-bdeps=n, we'll need to add some packages to our set like patch, make, ...
