Title

<title> — The Waterfox Project</title>

– incomplete.

Page content

Back to Waterfox Privacy Policy

– refers to https://www.waterfoxproject.org/en-US/privacy/

  • Webpage data to Google’s SafeBrowsing service:

– should be Safe Browsing (not SafeBrowsing).

… Opting out prevents Waterfox from warning you of potentially illegitimate or malicious websites.

From #452 (comment) under Safe Browsing availability and levels · Issue #452:

Waterfox application functionality

… My concern here is that end users may have a false sense of security.

Consider a plain English enhancement to https://www.waterfoxproject.org/privacy/waterfox/ so that end users can understand the limitations of Waterfox (compared to Firefox) when opt-in, the default, is allowed for Safe Browsing.

<title>Waterfox Privacy</title> is descriptive 👍 but (nit) not consistent with the title that is given in the referring page(s).

Crash reporting

… choose to send us crash reports …

Amongst the lines at about:config?filter=crash we have an empty value for:

  • toolkit.crashreporter.infoURL

– plus, at least on (Mozilla Tier-1) Mac OS X, about:buildconfig in Waterfox 56.2.0 includes:

  • --disable-crashreporter

Where 'us' = the Waterfox project, is there any meaningful value for toolkit.crashreporter.infoURL through which a crash report might be submitted to – and received and stored by – the project? If not, then a plain English enhancement to the crash reporting section of https://www.waterfoxproject.org/privacy/ might add a single-sentence paragraph:

Automated reporting to the Waterfox project is not a feature of the Waterfox application.

– or words to that effect.

Google Safe Browsing

  • Webpage data to …

This bullet point may be misleading.

Is anything sent to Google?

  • about:config?filter=browser.safebrowsing.downloads.enabled

browser.safebrowsing.downloads.enabled defaults to false.

From https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/880z4b/-/dwh9iqe/ (2018-03-29):

… Waterfox sends basic information about unrecognized downloads to Google's SafeBrowsing Service, including the filename and the URL it was downloaded from.

Sorry, this shouldn't be there as it's actually not true …
