Chatting with @KarishmaGhiya about #28879 I learned that the Azure Account extension no longer works with VisualStudioCodeCredential and a fix is not planned at this time.

It sounds like we are deprecating VisualStudioCodeCredential and this issue tracks the completion of that task:

  1. Deprecate the package on npm
  2. Remove it from azure identity readme (or specify its deprecation status)
  3. Update the troubleshooting guide
