Artwork not showing on player screen

We've had a couple of reports recently of users not seeing the artwork on the player screen and using the ‘Refresh All Podcast Artwork’ not solving the issue. We haven't been able to replicate but I'm listing both reports here in case we get more cases and we need further investigation:

@mchowning I am able to replicate this when having 'Use Embedded Podcast Artwork' enabled and trying to play episodes from these podcasts:

• The Final Word Cricket Podcast
• Waveform: The MKBHD Podcast

It does not happen on the iOS app though. The logs do not shed much light on why the artwork is not showing.

It's strange because it was happening a lot over the past week with a variety of podcasts. The only thing I can think of is that both Chrome and Android System WebView updated overnight so perhaps that fixed the issue?

Just adding, my apps are all up to date, with the latest OS version but I still have this issue when embedded podcast artwork is enabled.

A recent problem I've noticed is that the podcast pictures (tiles?) in SOME episodes are not displayed when in player mode. Just a blank black background instead.

Also reported on #5306118-zen. Like what @joashrajin discovered, the issue goes away when "Use embedded podcast artwork" is disabled:

I got to the bottom of this. I figured I would try this on my wife's phone. She has a Galaxy S21 but she doesn't make use of the phone like I do.
I downloaded Pocketcasts when she got the phone and I made sure it was updated. I found that this problem didn't exist on her phone. I checked the Pocketcast settings and under Appearance I had "Use embedded podcast artwork" enabled and she didn't.
I turned it off on mine and the problem went away.

Whenever I start listening to a podcast, one second after the podcast starts, the album artwork disappears. It's not an intrusive glitch, just an annoying one. The artwork is still visible on the podcast selection screen, just not on the player.

Just noting that for #5315844-zen, they say that the issue is there regardless of whether "Use embedded podcast artwork" is enabled.

We asked them to test disabling "Use embedded podcast artwork," which helped. They then tested re-enabling the setting and the artwork still remained:

Developer here at Captivate
One of our users recently reported that Episode artwork is no longer showing up in Pocketcasts (only show artwork). Is this a change on your end?

I'm also seeing this across other shows also, but they're describing seeing some of their old artwork still. I'm assuming this is some form of caching?

I have looked into the report from @CameronMilliken and the user seems to be having an issue with the embedded artwork.

I can see when debugging that the mime type isn't given to us and it doesn't seem to display if we save it as a PNG or JPG.

I think the best approach would be to fallback to the podcast image if the embedded artwork can't be loaded by Coil.
