I thought I'll leave this here.

what was required to make it work with HA Generic camera:

1. enable telnet server on camera
2. reboot
3. telnet into camera
4. passwd root (set a root password, default is empty)
5. reboot or wait until its synced
6. disable telnet server
7. reboot

point generic camera at rtsp stream, digest authentication with username(root), password(your_set_passwd)

thanks for this as I couldnt get any of the others to work!
